BESA member news: Kudlian Soft wins Best Primary ICT at the Education Resources Awards

PRESS RELEASE

Demonstrating the educational value of digital video and animation, I Can Animate, from award winning software developer, Kudlian Soft, has been recognised as the Best Primary ICT software at the annual Education Resources Awards (ERAs). The winners, announced on Friday 10 March 2006 at the Motorcycle Museum, NEC, Birmingham, were commended by Director, Ray Barker for ”continually providing classrooms with the choice and diversity they really want and need to make a

difference.” Winning its second major award in 3 years and with sales up 300% since January 2006, I Can Animate provides the tools to create stunning animated movies using professional stop-motion techniques. The ERA judges - a panel of 25 education professionals – introduced I Can Animate as a “totally accessible route to animation for children, with the ‘wow’ factor. It allows you to create stunning movies using a variety of animation techniques, encouraging creativity and 21st century ICT skills.”

Harnessing the power of digital media, Kudlian Soft has developed I Can Animate for ages 5 and upwards, to provide schools with an opportunity for the pupils to present their work in an alternative, new and exciting way. I Can Animate enable teachers using computers to make full use of digital video for educational purposes.

Kudlian’s animation application has been found to motivate children to integrate digital video and animation into curriculum subjects. They are then able to export the movie and add sound, music, special effects, titles and transitions to finish their own professional looking movie. Digital Video and animation can be incorporated throughout the curriculum, from media studies, science, geography to citizenship and design and technology to enhance teaching and learning, introducing a creative approach to all subjects.

Roger Young, Managing Director, Kudlian Soft, commented: “We are delighted to have produced an application that has been recognised by BESA as a leading software title for Primary ICT. Animation motivates all ages to become creative with stop-motion techniques. We welcome this recognition from the ERA Awards 2006 for I Can Animate which reinforces the far reaching effects this sort of activity has across the curriculum.”

Lesley Hagger-Vaughan, Manager at Shireland City Learning Centre commented on the use of the application: “I Can Animate is a very inclusive piece of software, which enables all learners to engage and achieve success. Not only is this title good value for money, it has enabled students to produce outcomes of which they can be proud and it has enhanced their knowledge and understanding of a broad range of curriculum areas.”

The software is available from Kudlian Soft for just £35.00 plus VAT for a single-user licence. A full site licence is available for £299 plus VAT. Recommended cameras include a Firewire-based webcam, such as an Apple iSight, or alternatively a digital video camcorder.
