“The biggest school funding shortages in England since the 1990s are threatening to damage standards, says a report from MPs overseeing public spending. The cross-party Public Accounts Committee criticises “delusions” in government over the budget situation.

Head teachers said the Department for Education had “buried its head in the sand” over the extent of financial problems. The Department for Education says funding is at record levels. But the report from the Public Accounts Committee says “funding per pupil is reducing in real terms” and will mean schools cutting spending by £3bn by 2019-20.”
