Primary Mathematics Commissioning Editor, Rising Stars

The Hodder Education Group is a vibrant and growing business within Hachette UK. Over the past few years it has succeeded in winning market share in the UK, and has significantly grown its international business in a wide range of markets. The company is the two-time winner of the British Book Industry Awards sponsored by the Bookseller (2015 and 2016); on both occasions the judges commented on the energy and dynamism evident within Hodder Education, making it “obviously a great place to work”.

Rising Stars, part of the Hodder Education Group and one of the most successful primary education publishers in the UK, is looking for a mathematics commissioning editor (or senior commissioning editor depending on experience). This is an excellent opportunity to join an exciting publishing team with ambitious plans for the future. With responsibility for developing new print and digital products in primary mathematics, we’re looking for a proactive individual to work creatively and strategically to develop the list. The role requires some knowledge of the publishing process, but, more importantly, the interest to spot opportunities for new market-focused products within primary mathematics and the ability to create networks to do so.

The ideal candidate will have know-how which demonstrates an ability to develop commercial and profitable project proposals from market research. They will also have a keen awareness of the impact of technology on customers and how this needs to influence publishing. Developing excellent author care, as part of ongoing relationships, is essential. Knowledge of the UK education market, government policy and trends in the education section, particularly in mathematics, and relevant contacts are highly desirable.

We are looking for commercially-minded candidates who have the imagination and desire to understand and respond to the needs of primary mathematics teachers and learners, and the ability to shape that market knowledge into successful, commercial, projects.

In return we offer a competitive salary and range of benefits, an inspiring work environment and the opportunity to join a company where people are passionate about their work.
