PRESS RELEASE

Capita SIMS and Capita Managed IT Solutions will be bringing their education experts together at Bett 2014 (stand B260) to demonstrate how their software, services and technology can help schools on their journey to delivering an outstanding education.

Both teams will be on hand to offer advice on how to make it easier to deliver excellent teaching and learning using their 30 years’ experience of working with schools, supporting six million learners.

It is this depth of knowledge that has ensured that this year, collectively, they have been shortlisted for three Bett Awards 2014. Capita SIMS has been shortlisted in the ICT Services and Support category for the Capita SIMS Education Service Desk and in the ICT Leadership and Management Solution category for the SIMS Learning Gateway online portal. Capita Managed IT Solutions has been shortlisted for ICT Company of the Year (over ÂŁ10 million turnover).

Phil Neal, managing director of Capita SIMS, says: “After so many years in the business, we have learnt a lot about what practices make schools successful. We are at Bett this year to help share some of this knowledge with schools.

“We will also be launching our SIMS School Improvement Programme which has been designed to show school leaders how they can drive fundamental improvements in achievement, leadership and inspection performance.”

Ed Brown, managing director of Capita Managed IT Solutions, says: “Our aim for Bett is to show that having innovative IT need not be a complex and costly exercise. We will demonstrate this with some of the solutions we will be showcasing on the day.

“MY-SCHOOL is a cloud-based learning portal which allows students and teachers to securely access all their school learning and teaching resources when they are on the bus, in the library or at home using their tablet, PC or smartphone. Students can download the latest timetable, access revision material or send and receive internal emails. Teachers can issue announcements, send SMS texts to the parents of an entire class or set homework using a single username and password.

“Schools, academies and colleges can also find out about affordable bring your own device (BYOD) solutions which enable users to access files and applications using their own personally-owned device. It increases productivity among students and staff by providing access to engaging educational content. More importantly, it provides heads and IT managers with a tangible means of improving student to computer ratios at a cost that is both affordable and sustainable.”

Other highlights on the joint stand include SIMS Discover which last year scooped the Bett Award for Innovation in ICT. Visitors to the stand will be able to see how they can easily create coloured bar and line graphs, Venn diagrams and pie charts for groups of students using data held within SIMS. It allows all members of staff to instantly identify individual strengths and weaknesses, compare the academic progress for different student groups and immediately spot any areas of concern so that they can introduce appropriate intervention strategies.

Capita SIMS provides the SIMS MIS used by 22,000 schools. Capita Managed IT Solutions works with schools to ensure that they can exploit the full potential of IT while remaining focused on teaching and learning. They offer flexible ICT managed services from outsourcing a single element of a school’s IT to complete outsourcing  of all its systems as well as providing all the necessary support.
