The role
As The Key rapidly broadens is marketing and communications specialisms, an opportunity has arisen for a communications all-rounder – that can support the team with everything from pitching a story to organising an event. We’re looking for someone with some previous PR and social media experience, to join our friendly, ambitious and growing team. This role provides huge opportunity for personal growth, and will involve assisting with every aspect of our communications strategy for 2019, from traditional press office, to event management, social media management and external stakeholder engagement.

  • Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing day-to-day email and telephone press queries, arranging interviews and responding appropriately to journalists
  • Maintaining a database and developing strong relationships with national, broadcast and education trade media
  • Researching and drafting materials such as press releases, comments and media briefing documents
  • Pitching stories/articles to journalists via email and telephone
  • Creating and maintaining a programme of proactive thought leadership placement and executive profiling, as well as ongoing management of regular contribution opportunities
  • Monitoring the national news agenda closely and proactively to spot opportunities to comment, or hook thought leadership content to
  • Work with other teams in the business to spot trends and opportunities that can be leveraged for PR purposes
  • Working with the digital marketing team to lead work on developing the company’s presence on social media channels
  • Organisation and management of The Key’s stakeholder and media events, as well as any relevant industry events/conferences
  • Working with the product marketers to support member engagement via PR across our portfolio

Collating, maintaining and distributing up-to-date logs of the company’s press and social media achievements

Job type: full-time, permanent
Location: Central London
Salary: £20,000 to £24,000, based on experience

The person
You will have outstanding spoken and written communication skills, a passion for PR and an interest in education/edtech.

You will also have:

  • A real passion for PR and keen desire to build your career in this industry
  • Previous demonstrable experience of working in a busy office environment – with a good grasp of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook (or equivalent)
  • Proven time management, administration and logistical skills, as well as excellent ability to problem solve
  • A minimum of 1 years’ experience of working in a press office/agency environment (ideally B2B), with good knowledge of print, broadcast and online media. Previous event management experience would be advantageous, but not essential
  • A demonstrable understanding of social media and how to use channels to achieve communications objectives
  • A hunger for creativity and a desire to always try new, bigger and better
  • A good understanding of what makes a great story
  • Excellent project management skills, analytical skills and an acute attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Political sensitivity and judgement
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and interact with people at all levels
  • Experience of working with the schools, education or not-for-profit sector would also be an advantage, but not an essential
